A suicide bomber on Wednesday near the southern Afghan city of Kandahar controlled his explosive-laden vehicle into a convoy of NATO.
According to the alliance, there were victims in the assassination attempt. Further details on the attack near the airport of the city were not mentioned at first. The airport is an important base for the NATO operation, with which Allianz supports the Afghan security forces.
The NATO-led Resolute Support service comprises around 13,000 soldiers from 39 countries. They form the Afghan armed forces and support them in the fight against the ever-increasing radical Islamic Taliban. US commanders in Afghanistan have requested the sending of thousands of other soldiers, but are encountering resistance in Washington.
